Ulmus 'Paul King'

''Ulmus'' 'Paul King' is a cultivar cloned from an old elm surviving in Essex, England, amidst others afflicted by Dutch elm disease.〔''Daily Telegraph'', 7 June 2010. New British tree 'resistant to Dutch elm disease'.()〕 The tree is named for the proprietor of the King Nursery in that county, who discovered and cloned the tree. The cultivar has not (2015) been scientifically tested by inoculation with the pathogen, and survival may be owing to 'field resistance': any one of a number of mechanisms by which the tree avoids infection in the first place. The tree is claimed to be English Elm,〔Milmo, C. (2015). Has a cure been found for Dutch elm disease?. ''The Independent'', 9 March 2015. 〕 now sunk as a cultivar, however the tree is more probably another of the many forms of Field Elm ''U. minor'' occurring in the east of England.

The cultivar is only known in the United Kingdom.
